From Eric

Many of you may have seen this on the net but I thik that it is pretty cool to know.

Indeed the rhyme

Humpty Dumpty sat on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall.
All the king's horses and all the king's men
Couldn't put Humpty together again....does not tell us at all that Humpty was an egg. However it's etymology has a number of variations, and it was in Lewis Carroll's 1871 book "Through the Looking Glass" (that used this rhyme), where the book's illustrator John Tenniel first drew Humpty as an egg, sitting on a wall.

An 1810 version of the rhyme also does not explicitly state that the subject is an egg because it was originally posed as the riddle as such:

Humpty Dumpty sate on a wall,
Humpty Dumpty had a great fall;
Threescore men and threescore more,
Cannot place Humpty dumpty as he was before.

Furthermore, "humpty dumpty" was an eighteenth-century reduplicative (linguistic root) slang for a short and clumsy person.

Toni Jackson, cousin, response

In the photo with four people the people are, left to right (your left): Jessie Pritchett Brighton; Menetta Black Pritchett; Mina Ericksen Pritchett; Vivian Pritchett Smith.

Jessie and Vivian are sisters; Menetta is married to their brother, Frank; Mina Ericksen Pritchett is their mother.

Nice photo, I may have this one.... I think I was there when it was taken at Frank & Menetta's home in LaCanada-Flintridge, CA, which is where, a week or so ago, the TV news was showing all the mud slides there due to lots & lots of rain falling on the burned out hillsides. The slides destroyed several homes. Every time I hear anything about that town (they didn't used to say the Flintridge part) I think of that house.  The wooden structure in the background is just the roof of their covered patio which sat apart from the house, in the back yard. That was considered pretty fancy in those days! My Mom was always jealous of them because they had "money"..... a wooden leg and no kids.... but "money".
Thanks for sharing... I think I told you that I still have (great grandmother) Mina's metal patio chair & a 'hair wreath' she made from the hair of several family members. Are you familiar with those?  I've offered it to my kids and no one wants it.  I always thought it was cool & had asked for it years ago.... my kids think it's 'gross'.  I was going to put it in my yard sale, but was just thinking maybe you or one of your kids may find it interesting.  I can email a pic to you if you would like to see it.  It's quite pretty in a velvet lined shadow box frame.  Let me know.
OK, too sleepy.... almost 1 am so going to go to bed.
Later, hugs, Toni

More About Briley

Just thought I'd forward this to you.  Briley is doing well.  Jens and I went to Ogden last night to see her since she is off the venitator.  I can't believe how big she is growing even though she still is so small.  She truly is amazing and a miracle.  We appreciate your thoughts and prayers in her behalf and putting their names in the temple.  We have been greatly blessed.
Love,
Carolyn

Hi,

Yesterday Briley was able to get off of the ventilator!!!  She was put on a machine called a C-Pack that helps keep pressure in her lungs and gives her extra oxygen, but makes her have to take her own breaths.  The last few days she has also been able to tolerate full feedings which has led to the IV's being taken out.  Heather was really excited one evening when she logged on to the webcam because her little girl was no longer naked.  With the IV's out Briley has started wearing little pajammas.  The last week has been continual good news with the progress Briley is making.  Wednesday she weighed 3 pounds 11 ounces.  She is starting to fill out and looks more and more like a normal baby each day.  We still don't have any idea when she will come home, but each day is one more closer.

Love,
Derek, Heather, Laramie, and Briley

Make Your Own Graham Crackers

Honey Graham Crackers
Honey graham crackersYou’ll feel good about serving these graham crackers. Not only is there no hydrogenated oil, but they have a high fiber content from the coarse-ground graham flour. These are not as sweet as cookies and much of the sweetness comes from honey. Because crackers are drier than cookies, milk is the perfect complement.
If you would like to serve something sweeter, sandwich two of these crackers with frosting.

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/4 cups graham flour
1/2 teaspoons salt
1/2 teaspoons baking soda
1/2 teaspoons cinnamon

3/4 cups butter
1/3 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cups brown sugar
1/4 cups honey
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 large egg

Sugar and butter for optional topping
Directions
1. Mix the dry ingredients together in a medium bowl.
2. With the paddle attachment of your electric mixer, beat the cold butter until it is soft. Add the sugars and continue beating. Then add the honey, extract and egg and beat until combined.
3. Add the dry ingredients to the mixer bowl and beat until a fairly firm dough is made. Wrap the dough in plastic and place it in the refrigerator to chill.
4. When the dough is firm enough to roll, lightly dust a countertop and a rolling pin and roll the dough to a scant 1/4-inch thick. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees.
5. Use a ruler to mark 3-inch squares. Cut into squares with a sharp knife using the ruler as a straightedge. Use a thin metal spatula to scrape the crackers from the counter. Place them on a well-greased baking sheet with a margin of space to allow for spreading. Use a fork to pierce the crackers as shown.
6. Bake the crackers for ten minutes or until the edges just start to brown. Remove them to a wire rack to cool.

These crackers are only lightly sweet. For a sweeter version, just before baking the crackers, brush the tops with melted butter. Sprinkle granulated sugar over the buttered tops.
Baker’s note: Graham flour is a whole wheat flour with lots of fiber from the wheat hull left in. You can substitute your favorite whole wheat flour if you prefer. Different wheat flours will lend a little different texture to the crackers.

From Beth Durfey, Dad's 2nd missionary companion's wife.

Hi Myrna,

Thanks for sending the article about the Payson Temple. Russell thinks they need to leave Nephi with Manti. I think it would be nice also.  I hate to see all the great Nephi people leaving. I know they may need the help when they open the new temple.  My sister, Maureen, missed helping opening the Huston Temple by moving to the SL Valley by she helped with one of the new temples. I can't remember it was the last one that opened.  She said it was a job as they did not give them enough people to start with. There were not even enough to fill all the jobs.  I hope they learned with that temple & will not do that with the Payson Temple. The only experienced people starting that temple were a few workers from the River Jordan Temple. They used them as supervisors. That temple does as Manti, & the sister fill all the positions. Maureen was not use to that as River Jordan has divisions where sisters are in a division for greeting, baptism, one that sits the posts, one that does the veil, one for initiatory, one to go on sessions, I'm not quite sure how they broke it all down but Maureen was trying to explain it. I probably got it all wrong. but it was not as we have it.  She had a hard time as they didn't give her enough people to fill all the positions when you consider how many places there need to cover. She is sweet but will not be walked over as I am, She was in a meeting before opening the temple to make sure all was ready, she told them that she did not have enough sisters & that she would be able to cover these places & she would have to let the other places go until they got her some more sisters.  They eventually got her more sisters & things are going much more smoothly now.

I was not going to go into all that my fingers just got carried away. LOL

I have been very pleased to see you playing many of the games I play. My problem is I have gotten myself into so many I am going to have to back out of a few of them.  I really like the gardening ones.  Some of them think they have to turn into towns. Now I am now sure I want to continue playing them.  I will have to see how they turn out.  I really love the collection games.  101 eggs & more, egg buddies, hatchlings.  I need to get back to working with Indexing, & Genealogy. I have let those go for too long now. When they changed things around the programs wouldn't work on my computer then I changed to my laptop. I need to go over to the Stake Family Search Center, that is not the name but you know what I mean. They will get me set up again, help me on my way. I hope it will not take too long. As I am getting worse at being able to sit up for long. I need to force myself though.

I'll talk to you later.  This is much longer than I planned on.

Have a wonderful day,

Beth Durfey

My friends in my ward in Nephi and I are thinking that we will fast and pray from now until the temple is opened that there will be a lot of people move into the Payson area. We are praying that they will have so many build homes there that they will have to organize new stakes. That will result in there being too many stakes for the temple to take and we will HAVE to stay back so we will still be in the Manti Temple district. The prophet would say, "Sorry, but there are just too many stakes in the Payson Temple district so you will need to keep going to the Manti Temple." Then we will all cheer and be happy. None of us want to leave Manti. Now, you have to agree, it could happen. Love, M

You are right I really could happen, if enough of us fasted & prayed about it. I will join you in the praying as I can't fast right now because of my health but I will pray with you.  Russell was thinking that it might be a possibility as we talked about that a while ago. He told me there were some new housing developments going in & there will be new ones go in near the temple. In Utah there are always new housing close to the temple. Someone should build a large condo so some of the older people could move in there & have no yard work to do & could just walk to the temple. They have a place like that in Cardston, Alberta, It is very nice for the older people who lived in the town further away & now want to retire doing temple work & genealogy work. I do hope it works & that you will be able to still come here.

AnnMarie's Talk

Click on or paste this link, then click on my picture at the bottom.  My talk at the law school.  See what you think. Thank heavens they didn't quote me saying judges leave work at 5:00 (said with a chuckle) or that I have seen mad-dog defense attorneys go to jail/federal prison or that 35-year veteran officers lose evidence.  I didn't know the talk was being videotaped and reported on.  The candles were because I didn't have a lot of air fresheners lying around--masking agent.

Oh, oh, what did Grammy start?

Sorina was going to birthday party Friday night.  I had her sign the card to go with her gift.  I glanced at the card and read below her signature.  “use this money to buy a treat”  I said, what money?  She replied, yours.  Put a buck in there.

We figure she got this idea from you, as you always send a card with $ inside for a treat.

We thought it was cute, she’s using your example.

There is an order to her world.  If you send a card, it should have a buck for treats.  If you send home lunch, you’d better put a note in it.  And lots of little things that we have done that for her become important or “just the way” things are done.

For Toren he won’t leave carpool unless I tell him I love him and wish him to have a great day.  (Don’t tell him, I’ve noticed that, he’d deny it.)
