I had some candy chocolate Easter eggs and kept those for Dad LHT.

Siovhan is fun to have around. We enjoyed our visit with her and hope she enjoyed hers with us. I made butter flake rolls and sent a few back with her. We had smoked turkey breast, Dad’s favorite. We sent a bit of that back with her as well.

I’ll send some photos another day.

Please Send to Helen

Hi, Myrna- I sent an e-mail back last week on the one you sent requesting some information on the Trauntvein family indicating Eva would probably have that. I also asked if you would send Shawn and Kimberly's e-maill address. The one I have and have used in the past has worked. One I sent to them last week came back from the service indicating the receiver not know.  I haven't heard back from you so don't know whether you received mine. Would you please send me their correct e-mail. When I spoke with Tim last night he said it is Marys' birthday- What a wonderful milestone for all. Have a special Easter- love Helen

Holman's Kirke Where Trauntvein Ancestors Were Married

Eva, would you, please, help me with the name of the church? LHT is not home and Brigitta needs to know the name for a report she is doing. This is where your Great-plus-grandparents were married.

(Eva, don’t worry about keeping a copy, unless you want to. We are putting together, hopefully for Christmas, a copy with a little history of our trip for each of you.)

This is actually the back side of the church. It faces along the cannel used to take tourists (like us) around the city of Copenhagen, out through the harbor through Nyhavn and back to the starting point. The bride and groom, in a later photo, and the wedding party actually walked a couple of blocks and boarded a yacht for their wedding dinner. We saw them later in the harbor when we went on the tour.

I remembered the name, so don't worry.

The Church of Holmen (Danish: Holmens Kirke) is a church in central Copenhagen in Denmark, on the street called Holmens Kanal. First built as an anchor forge in 1563, it was converted into a naval church by Christian IV. It is famous for having hosted the wedding between Margrethe II of Denmark, current queen of Denmark, and Prince Henrik in 1967. It is the burial site of such notabilities as naval heroes Niels Juel and Peter Tordenskjold, and composer Niels Wilhelm Gade, and contains artwork by, among others, Bertel Thorvaldsen and Karel van Mander.

The church's pipe organ was originally made by Lambert Daniel Kastens and installed in 1738, and the facade remains in place today. The actual organ, however, is from 1956.The current pulpit was installed in 1662 and was carved by Abel Schrøder and stands in the natural colour of its oak, except from the king's monogram which is gilded. It is the oldest preserved pulpit in Copenhagen, and the most richly decorated. It stands from floor to ceiling, and depicts Christian history from Moses holding the basket up to Jesus Christ.

The oldest baptismal font in the church is in wrought iron and stands 117 cm tall. A white marble font was installed in 1756, created by Carl Frederik Stanley in classicist style, but is no longer in the church. The new baptismal font from 1872 was made by the sculptor Evens by Ludvig Fenger's design, in black marble and sandstone.

A model of Niels Juel's ship Christianus Quintus hangs from the ceiling in the church.

In medieval Copenhagen, Holmen (or Bremerholm) was an actual island. However, in the 16th century, city restructuring made it less of an island and more of a peninsula surrounded by Holmens Canal. On this peninsula, Christian III of Denmark founded a shipyard which became synonymous with the name Holmen.

When the shipyard moved to Nyholm on Christianshavn, the name Holmen followed, and Bremerholm then became Gammelholm (old island), a name which is rarely used today. Holmens canal was filled in the 1860s, but the name lives on as a street.

The appearance of the Church of Holmen today closely resembles that of the renovation in 1872, except for the colour. The windows are in clear glass and predominantly set in iron. The spire is dressed in copper just like small spire on the confessional's roof. The church is of Lutheran denomination.

From Helen

Dear Myrna: sorry I can't help with the above request- I am sure Eva will be able to. I don't know the name of the Trauntvein Family Church in Copenhagen, Denmark.

Will you please send me Shawns' and Kimberlys' e-mail address- I have in past months sent e-mails to one I have- this past Sunday afternoon I wrote them a long e-mail. It came back indicating the receiver is unknown.

I really enjoyed a phone visit with Tim on Saturday evening- I am sure he has told you Don and Thelma have officially received their mission call to the Palmyra temple- Needless to say they are so pleased and excited. They are to arrive at the Provo M.T.C. on the 11th April for the week. Will be here in Salt Lake for several days with their training- Are to be in Palmyra by the 30th of April. They do need to take their own living accomodations. They already have a trailer they purchased not long after coming home from Australia- the Temple President and Don talked for some time the other night. He told them the church has a very nice trailer part with all the hook ups, asphalt cover with grass between the trailer spots and a clothes washing facility.

Nanci has been in Florida for about 5 weeks. Her foster mom was diagnosed with leukemia about 2-3 years ago. Went into remission with treatment for awhile and then became very ill again. For the past 5 weeks Nanci has been living with them, mom and dad, and taking care of her mom. She did sojourn to the Spirit World early this past Wednesday a.m. They tentatively planned for a grave side service this past Saturday. She was going to stay for a while longer to be with her father- I haven't spoken with her since Friday a.m. so have no further news. We are grateful her health and time have permitted with special opportunity for herself and all of her foster family, mom, dad and siblings. Heather continues to enjoy school at San Diego State Univerity and her work. She will soon be finishing her 2nd semester- as will Shiovan I am sure.

Tim told me you folks are going to Boston next month- a place I dearly love. He said Todd is enjoying his work-I am pleased for him. Will  close for now. Love Helen

Curly Locks

Yep, I was pregnant (still or yet) again! (Dad's former missionary companions at his missionary reunions teased us with that little treasure of a question--"Myrna, is it still again or yet?".) In this case, I was expecting Melanie. But the reason I am sending these two photos is that I wanted you all to see that curly hair of Shawn’s. Isn’t that fun? I loved it but, as you will see in the church photo, Dad did not think his little man should have long curly hair. It was before that era. So before and after the hair cut. I actually posted the photos in the wrong order. Oh, well. Love you all, Myrna

A Newsletter?

Jim’s family puts together this neat newsletter every month. It has a photo of each family (or someone in the family) and tells about what each of the families are doing. I think it is neat. Could we do that? I would even be the puter-togetherer. Let me know how you vote. They mail the letter out to everyone. It is usually just a couple of sheets of type-paper.

Of course, this week my computer decided to not work on my writing program. Try doing the news in a new format and see how you like it. You would complain too. Anyway, this too shall pass.

Let me know.

I love you all, Mom

Yes, sounds good.

I have no back-up but I will be fine.

Myrna wrote: Shawn is in Las Vegas, he is presenting at a conference there. Todd is in Ohio. Amy and Eric are both at work and, in fact, I am supposed to have their kids at that time. AnnMarie has court and I will have Matthew. Mary HATES traveling and cannot be around just any kids so that leaves Julie out as far as the driving help is concerned. You and Kirsten are too far away. Allan and family are going the day before. David is too far away and has to work.

As for watching the kids, Mary Horrocks has said she will help out. But that is OK. I think this may be best for me. I know what a great guy Vance is. I just want his family to know that I do. I want Sonya to know that I care about her and that I love her.

I think I will be happy with having Julie come and watch the kids so I can go to the cemetery. That is actually what I get for being such a weenie. I am a good enough driver it is just that I don’t know what to do with the rest of my life. Wednesday is school board and I will be up late. I also have been asked to take a meal into a family. I will also have the kids all day on Wednesday by myself since Dad and Jim will not be back from working with the bees in California. Then I am to have Todd’s kids for a few days. I think I just may be tired. I am not as young as I used to be when I could burn the candle at both ends and not pay for it the next few days. My problem with driving is getting enough sleep so that I don’t fall asleep at the wheel. Sleep may not be a possibility.

I’ll bet you know just what I mean. So I can quit rambling.

Myrna wrote: Sonya could use the money. The insurance that they had, according to Alan, was just the senior citizen variety that comes from the government. (I never can remember the name.) He is worried that this last surgery will be so pricy that Sonya will be in debt for years. I hope not, but, nevertheless, I am donating money in a card. I am not rich, as you know, so I will just give $20 and wish that it could be more. Vance was the one who sent us $10 bill each month for our missionaries. I found that out from Alan just a short time ago. It would come in an envelope with the address typed on an old typewriter.

Thank you so much for bringing it up from St George.

Melanie--Vance P. Gibson

It sounded like from the earlier email that Vance would be fine. This is such a shock. He looked so horrible this past summer though. I am sure that he is glad that the pain and the trial is over. I have thought about flowers, but then I thought that maybe he would prefer to have the money donated to the American Diabetes Foundation. Let me know what you are going to do. Does Sonya need the money? I could send her some, but I don't want to be rude and just assume that they could use the money. Maybe Alan will know.

Danish Anchor

This anchor is a memorial to all the Danish sailors. It is in Nyhavn.

Next to Kongens Nytorv you find The Anchor - a large ship's anchor which commemorates all the Danish sailors lost at sea during the Second World War. The Anchor is also the boundary between Kongens Nytorv and the oldest part of Copenhagen Harbor called Nyhavn, today one of the prime recreational areas in Copenhagen.

The Great Belt Bridge conects the land that Cophenhagen is on to the island of Funen.  Odense is on Funen. That is the  birthplace of Hans Christian Andersen. We used the bridge when we visited Denmark. We wondered how the people of Denmark manage to pay the toll for its use if they have to do it on a regular basis. The Great Belt Fixed Link runs between the Danish islands of Zealand and Funen. It consists of a road suspension bridge and railway tunnel between Zealand and the island Sprogø, and a box girder bridge between Sprogø and Funen.

Wikipedia informs:
Total length: 22,277' (6,790 m)
Height: 833' (254 m)
Address: Hjejlevej 107, 5800 Nyborg, Denmark
Architecture firm: Dissing+Weitling
Location: Zealand, Funen
Bridge type: Suspension bridge, Box girder bridge

They spent all day Saturday, and Saturday night here, and they went home Sunday a.m. Then we all, with David, went to the Hoover Dam. We had a really good time.
They are at a meeting together right now. David can't really go very often because he works until 7 p.m, but Bree is going every chance she gets. Vance Had Surgery

Jason Gibson: This is just a general email being sent out to let everyone know how Dad is doing.

Yesterday, at 7:15 a.m. he went in for quadruple bypass surgery.

Everything went as planned with that, but when they were done, they were unable to get his heart to beat regularly without the aid of the machine. It would go for a while ok, and then go back on the machine, then go for a while ok, and back and forth. This continued on for most of the day. At 7:00 pmish that night, they were able to get him stable enough to move him up to a room upstairs. He is still hooked up to the balloon, which helps his heart beat, but they believe he will continue to get stronger as the days pass.

The doctors say he still isn't out of the woods yet though. He's got A LOT of water on him, and a lot of swelling from the surgery, so right now their main concern is trying to decrease that. As soon as both of those go down, they'll be able to permanently close his chest (as of now, it is just covered with a piece of artificial skin). There still is a worry of how he'll heal from the surgery, because he doesn't heal very well from the effects of his diabetes. I guess time will tell.

Thank you all for keeping us in your prayers. We'll let you know how things develop as the time passes by.

Are the little ones getting better?

To Barbara: Are you sick? The kids were sick when they left. They had colds and I thought you might have got it from them. Donovin kept coughing. I got them some cough and cold Triaminic. That is what our doctor recommends. I sent it home with them. I have worried about all of you. Love, Myrna

Barbara wrote: I’m really here. I saw the kids last night. Erin is still really hot and not feeling good. Donovin just kept running, yelling, “Grandma, look at this,” in that wonderful little voice. He would run and jump and fall and was loving every minute of it. Erin just sat on my lap. I will write you at home tonight.

I’m OK. Don’t worry about me, but thank you for doing so.

Love ya,

Myrna wrote: Donovin was the one who was sickest when they were here. I am sorry about using your work email but thought you may be too busy to respond on your regular account. (I had sent a question about the kid's health and you had not responded.) I thought that was why I had not heard from you. Tell me if they are feeling better. Are they giving Erin medicine and tender care? I am certain that they are. David is used to be a fairly good nurse. Love, Myrna

Send to AnnMarie

Barbara: I don’t have the David Trauntvein family's address. In addition, I won’t be home for three days. Send the email to AnnMarie. AnnMarie and Brandon Howard <bshowardam@msn.com> and I will get it. She and Brandon are going to Boston with Alyssa. Alyssa is in the All-American Children’s Choir. I will be with their kids in Provo so that Brandon and AnnMarie can go on the trip with Alyssa. Myrna

Did You Find a Photo of Richard?

From Myrna: Did Garth have a photo of Richard when he  was a baby? If he did, and it was scanned in, I would like a copy. There was a really cute one of him pulling his pant leg up and, thus, his foot. He was about one, I think. It was a studio photo, shot by a pro. I wanted a copy but was told that they were too expensive so there was only the one photo. (It was probably one of those store deals where they shot the photo and then you chose a packet.) It used to be in the top desk drawer, on the right, of Grandma Smith's old desk.

What did you name Mindy’s baby?

Lots of love, Myrna

From Denise:

Dear: Myrna:

He hasnt said if he has one our not.  I will call him tonight and ask if he has
found one.  If he hasn't forgot to look for one, because I sure would like one of
him also. Mindy named him Mason.

Thanks Denise

From Myrna:

What a great name for a baby boy! I’ll bet you are having a wonderful time being grandma!

AnnMarie is expecting again. This will be her fifth. She is due in August.

Let me know what you find out about the photos.

Did you get the ones I sent of Richard as a little boy. I guess you already had those, right?
