Father

Father
by Edgar A. Guest

My father knows the proper way
  The nation should be run;
He tells us children every day
  Just what should now be done.
He knows the way to fix the trusts,
  He has a simple plan;
But if the furnace needs repairs,
  We have to hire a man.

My father, in a day or two
  Could land big thieves in jail;
There’s nothing that he cannot do,
  He knows no word like “fail.”
“Our confidence” he would restore,
  Of that there is no doubt;
But if there is a chair to mend,
  We have to send it out.

All public questions that arise,
  He settles on the spot;
He waits not till the tumult dies,
  But grabs it while it’s hot.
In matters of finance he can
  Tell Congress what to do;
But, O, he finds it hard to meet
  His bills as they fall due.

It almost makes him sick to read
  The things law-makers say;
Why, father’s just the man they need,
  He never goes astray.
All wars he’d very quickly end,
  As fast as I can write it;
But when a neighbor starts a fuss,
  ’Tis mother has to fight it.

In conversation father can
  Do many wondrous things;
He’s built upon a wiser plan
  Than presidents or kings.
He knows the ins and outs of each
  And every deep transaction;
We look to him for theories,
  But look to ma for action.

some idea of what is happening

Mom,

I arrive at 4:30 on Wednesday. We are checking Ben's luggage. Because of the timing of the BYU orientation events, we have decided to stay at Ann Marie's for the few days that those events will be happening. Ben and I have a breakfast at 8 am on Thursday. I don't know if Mikaela will be coming down with the Howard's when they come to your place on Thursday...I will check with Ann Marie when I get there tomorrow night.

I also haven't talked with Ben about his schedule. I know he has meetings on Friday and I have a parent's meeting on Saturday. We also have to buy his books and plan on moving him in to his dorms. He was gone all night, and I had to take care of Young Women (I still have one of my callings).

I will call you when I get to Ann Marie's tomorrow night. It will probably be around 7 pm, due to getting the luggage and dealing with rush hour(s) of traffic.

Thanks Mom.

I have talked with Julie. She is bringing the truck over. I am not using it on Wednesday. I will be renting a car for a few days, just because of logistics. I need to stay at AnnMarie's for a few days. Ben just told me five minutes ago that he needs us to be to an orientation breakfast on Thursday morning at 8...then he told me we had two meetings to be to on Friday and Saturday. I asked him the time...he said he didn't know and left the house. I don't know any more right now.

I will be arriving at 4:35 tomorrow afternoon. Ben is on a different flight, therefore the timing is a bit off and I don't want someone to wait around the airport for several flights to some in and for all the baggage to arrive.

We will be down on Sunday, for sure. What is happening in between, I really don't know. I am sorry, but the plans aren't really set yet. I have been so busy with painting and cleaning and packing up all the closets that I haven't had time to plan or think about what will be happening past the flight times.
