Seminary Broadcast - Alyssa‏

For those of you who will be attending the broadcast for the 100th Anniversary of Seminary tomorrow from Temple Square, Alyssa is in the seminary choir. She has a deep purple shirt and her trademark long blond hair. She is up there now for the camera and sound checks.

Myrna wrote: We didn't get to see it while it was happening because the site was "down for repairs," but we just got through watching it now. How impressive the choir was and we saw Alyssa singing several times. In fact, the entire meeting was impressive. I am going to try to burn it to a DVD. I may fail. I hope the church will release the DVD for purchase in the near future.

At any rate, congratulations to you, Alyssa! What a wonderful experience.

Auntie Helen Will Be Fine

The spots on Auntie's liver are enlarged blood vessels which she has likely had all of her life. The doctors reduced the amount of coumadin she was taking so they could perform a biopsy on the growth in her abdomen. They finally were able to adjust the level so that the test could be done.

Auntie Helen has no cancer and will be fine. The spots on her liver are just a tangle of malformed veins. She has likely had them since birth. The same thing has caused the lump in her abdomen. She does not need surgery because hers is, according to the doctor, congenital. He told her that she would not have even known she had them had they not had MRIs done. He has no idea why she had a blocked bowl but did tests and found nothing wrong. It is now resolved. So she said, she could live to be 100.

There are four types of AVMs:
Arteriovenous malformation – abnormal tangle of blood vessels where arteries shunt directly into veins with no intervening capillary bed; high pressure.
Cavernoma – abnormal cluster of enlarged capillaries with no significant feeding arteries or veins; low pressure.
Venous malformation – abnormal cluster of enlarged veins resembling the spokes of a wheel with no feeding arteries; low pressure, rarely bleed and usually not treated.
Capillary telangiectasia – abnormal capillaries with enlarged areas (similar to cavernoma); very low pressure.

We all have fun

Gordon Smith wrote: My computer has been down for four days.  I had to install a new modem, and program.  After I got it working again. I sent an email to many people about Corning glass.  I was having trouble with the new program, and it would not send that email.  I continued to work with it, and continued to try  to send that email.  Finally my program said it had an outgoing email in my outgoing box.  It asked if I wanted it to be sent.  I said, “Yes.”  It then sent it out.  However, it apparently sent it for each time I had tried to send it.  You may have received it six, or more, times.  I am sorry about that.

It is a neat article about what is coming in the future.  I hope you enjoyed it.

If I didn’t send it to you, and you want to see it, let me know and I will send it.

Myrna wrote: It was worth it! Thanks for sending.

New Word

I learned a new word today: 1.  synopposism: A word or phrase whose logical opposite is actually a synonym. The term "inside-out" is a synopposism. The logical opposite of "INside OUT" would be "OUTside IN". However, they both describe the same condition.

Caydin is Visiting Us

We have our little Caydin visiting us for a few days. Bree's dad, Allan Hohnstein, is in critical care in a hospital in Colorado Springs. Bree has gone to be with him and his wife, Maud. He has hepatitis. He is on dialysis and is not a good candidate for a liver transplant because of the disease. If a healthy liver were placed in his body, it would become diseased. He will have to make some decisions about whether to choose chemo or other treatment, which may or may not, prolong his life.

My Creed:

I would live so that Heavenly Father and my Savior are welcome to be part of my life. I would like to think that they could be comfortable to be with me in my day to day activities. That means that I must control myself and think appropriate thoughts, view appropriate and uplifting television shows and movies, communicate in wise and loving ways, listen to good music, read good books, study the scriptures more diligently, pray each night (and not just fall into bed). The computer should be my aid and not my master. I need to stop wasting time, losing my temper and, above all, I need to not be critical, judgmental, jealous and selfish.

I would treat all my fellow beings with kindness. My goal, through all my life, has been to be kind to all and treat all people as I would like to be treated. In practice, I have found it more difficult to treat well those who have wronged me. I have learned, through long years of practice, that it is best to attempt to make peace with all and to think well of even those who do not like me. I have more compassion for those who do not like me with good reason. Sometimes my actions in standing up for what I believe have been justified. Sometimes they have not, but I do not like to have bad feelings with anyone. Especially when it is my error, I need to continue to work toward peace. I would be forgiving.

Another goal, based on principle, is to always keep on working to improve and to learn and to accept new challenges. I think that failure is only that if I cease trying. As I age, I would endure to the end. I know that Heavenly Father is in control and that there are no accidents. Someone said that everything happens for a reason. I am learning that even trials in life are for my best good.

I would work at nurturing my most important relationships by being affirming, positive, considerate and giving of self and personal time. I will continue to seek out those who need a show of increased love and give them that love. I need to always stop, pause, and remember that I am a daughter of God and He loves me and I love Him. I also love my Savior. I would show this love by treating my family as though they are the princes and princesses of a royal lineage.

He's a trooper!

Kirsten wrote: Thanks for all of your prayers! They were definitely felt today! Ryan did great! Back home and already chomping down some McDonald's nuggets (cut up, of course)! The "cones" in his nose are held in by a couple stitches and will come out next week. He has yet to cry or complain about anything other than being hungry.

Thanks again for your prayers and words of encouragement. Love to you all!

Your Mother/Mother-in-law has LOST her mind and her camera‏

Myrna wrote: Dad and I have spent the morning looking for the blue-colored Canon. The last I remember seeing it was on New Year's Eve. I took the sliver-colored one to the swearing-in because I couldn't find it. Dad was certain that he could find it but, no luck. Any ideas?

Todd wrote: Haven't seen it. Have you used it since June?

Myrna wrote: Silly boy! You were just supposed to think of a place that I may have put it. The house has lots of secret passages, doors, drawers, etc.

From Saundra

Dear Classmates,

Just received the following information from Don Butler.

I’m sorry to report that another EC classmate has passed away.  Lynette Brady Brach (EC Class of 1960) died in Fruita, CO on Tuesday Jan 3.   I have no detailed information, except that Lynette’s husband Lawrence had passed away in 2008.  Lynette’s funeral will be held at 11AM Monday Jan 9 at the Callahan Mortuary in Grand Junction.  At this time I’m unaware of an online obituary, but will send the link if and when I receive it.  Thanks to Kathy Sorensen Bean for this information.  Our hearts go out to Lynette’s family and friends.

Also for those of you who may be interested.  Dean Holdaway's wife, Sandra, just passed away.  Am sure he would appreciate hearing from some of his classmates.

Saundra wrote: Did you send it to the address in our reunion book?  He has had that address for a couple of reunions and so far, everything sent to it hasn't been returned.  Have occasionally received e-mails from him.  That address is:  dwhmark@msn.com.

Good luck.

Myrna wrote: I did. I sometimes don't understand the mail delivery system. My nephew's card came back also (not deliverable as addressed) but it is the same address I have used for years. The end of the address has always been Pl (for Place) so I wrote Place and resent it. It was delivered. Thanks for the email address.
