Eric collects old ward and church cookbooks, not just from the wards he has lived in. He loves them. If you ever see one at a garage sale, buy it for him. (Or me!) I am like Mel, I have cookbooks from every ward I have ever lived in. I still love my old cookbook from Price, as you all know. (I even have one from Mona and I didn't ever live there but it has some good things in it.) However, it is falling apart.

Have you looked inside this one? Does it have green jell-o recipes?

Below is a letter from a real person that  I know.  Please take time to read it!!

Just want to share this message that I received from a friend. It's a letter sent to her friend from people in Texas who just experienced "Hurricane Ike". What a testimony for preparedness.

Dear Friends:

We have a 6'x6' hole in our roof, no electricity or running water, Trees down everywhere. However, because we listened to the counsel of our Prophet we are prepared. In fact it seems to me that it's only the members of the church who seem to be calm, prepared, and helping one another with trees in roofs, flooding, etc.

There is a POD or Point of Distribution in Tomball where we live. There you get water and ice IF you have enough fuel to wait in the 3-hour lines. We don't have to do that because we have 3 full water barrels, 75 juice bottles filled with water, and our pool, which is dirty, but we use it to flush.

It is very difficult to get gas. Police guard the stations when fuel is delivered and you might wait half a day to get up to the pump just to have them say, "Too bad, we are out". I am grateful that we have a generator. We run it 4 hours a day to keep our fridge and light. I am grateful that we have had fuel for it. You can't even by gas containers as they are rationed. We can only by bread once a week and limited to 2 loaves at a time. Water is rationed by the case at the grocery store - 3 cases per family.

The ATM machines do not have power. For the past 6 months I have stashed small bills away because I have had such a feeling of foreboding. We have cash because of that. LISTEN TO THE SPIRIT. Get cash in small bills because the stores can't make change and credit and debit cards often don't work. I had to pay 5 dollars more for an item because they couldn't make change for me. And . . . PHONES ONLY WORK OCCASIONALY.

Believe it or not...I have not had a bath in 4 days, Today was the first day I got to wash my hair with pool water. I haven't fixed my hair in a week!!! It just doesn't matter anymore. We cannot do laundry because we don't have water. So, we wear our clothes until they are literally disgusting. When we do finally get water we will have to boil it since it is contaminated.

I am grateful for my parents. When we got low on generator fuel they drove 45 minutes to help us. They filled up their cans and brought us 10 gallons of fuel, which kept us going until this morning at 6o, am when we finally found some gas.

A prepared Family and a loving extended family is the key to survival and making it through right now. I know that my parents would        drive to the end of the earth to help me and it's nice knowing they are there. I know that I would do the same for my children.

I want all of you to know that I have such a testimony of following the counsel of our living prophet. There really is safety and peace in your heart if you are prepared. Please get your generators, 5 gas cans full of gas, canned goods, baby items, baby wipes to bathe, and all the water you can store...even if you have to trip on it in your home. Have your lanterns, crank flashlights, tarps, rope, etc. ready to go because you never know when it will be your turn to endure the test. It's overwhelming, but it's going to be ok eventually. I have a home, I have food, and I have water, because I listened to the counsel of the prophet. Please make sure you do the same. It's time to have your life in order. Tomorrow may be too late.

Toren's last Pinewood Derby‏

The kids went to Canon City to see Bree's dad.  I am sitting here watching UFO's on TV.  Love the history channel.

Thank you for all the of the cards.  I am so brain dead where that sort of thing is concerned.  Thank you for thinking of me.

I bought groceries, specifically, coffee creamer.  I hadn't had any for a while, and it was a real treat.  The utility bill on this place is running right around $600 a month.  We are planning on getting out just as soon as we can.  Needless to say, money is very tight.  Thank heavens I got a job.  I am working for Safeway in the Deli.  I actually like it.  Hate my boss, but it is worth putting up with her for the job.  I don't think she is going to last much longer.  She hired her son's live in girlfriend (they all live with her).  So she is dependent on the girlfriends income.  Not a good situation.  But this is a typical small town.  Nepotism runs rampant.  I love the area so much I just don't care.

To get past the cancer, the drugs and now this.  I must be a very strong person indeed.  What doesn't kill you, makes you stronger.

I have Monday and Tuesday off to take care of the kids.  I guess right now I'm just living for Monday afternoon to find out what is actually going to happen.  Open heart surgery, or stop smoking and get more exercise?  She hasn't smoked for about a week now.  Maybe this is the wake up call both she and David needed.  I am so angry at her.  Doesn't do me any good, and it is deeply buried, but if she starts to smoke again, I'm probably going to kill her (not really).

Everything is going great with all of us, (besides the above).  The kids are doing good in school.  They are going through the "new kid" syndrome.  It is harder on Erin than Donovin.   Erin is in 4H and Donovin is wrestling (his dad is ecstatic).  Erin is involved in a goat farm, where she has her own goat, and takes care of it and shows it at fair time.  She is loving it.  But, the girls are all little sh....ts.  Bree is going to take on the other mothers one of these days.  I hope I am there to see it.  She has become a wonderful mother.  Donovin went to his first tournament and won a match.  Got a meddle that he is so proud of.  No one can push him off the mat, even the bigger boys.  He is such a little fighter.  With such a huge heart.  

Bree and I pretty much take care of Caydin (probably spelled wrong).  She takes him to bed around 7, gets up with him at 2:30-3AM, feeds him, then I take over.  I'm up with him from about 3:30 on.  She and I go to bed around the same time.  It is the only way we can get enough sleep.  He still only drinks 4oz at a feeding and only sleeps around 6-7 hours at a time.  We have tried to get him to stay up later, and gradually work him into a 9-10 pm to 5am, but haven't been successful so far.  Maybe one of these days.  Because everyone has been so sick (Dave and Bree) (I'm fine, haven't caught anything yet) he finally got a cold.  All stuffy in the head.  Makes him really irritable.  He still just screams at the top of his lungs when he is mad.  He will also give you a verbal lashing when he feels it is necessary.  I've never seen a baby as verbal as he is.  He talks all the time.  We aren't sure what he is saying, but it must be important.  I guess we need to teach him that sign language they are teaching babies now.

Well, I'm going to take a nap before I go to work.  I will keep up with you now on email.  I really hope you are doing OK!  How is Leonard?  He seems like such a strong person.  But I think you are stronger.  I love you and will write more later.

I am jealous that I am not closer so that I can help out. I did offer to come, it is not that far away. Remind Bree and David that I will drop everything to come if I am needed.

Jim and Julie are going to be paying those kind of heating bills, as well. It isn't as cold here so they have been only paying $400-$500 per month. They do not have natural gas where they live.

About CDs--Please Don't Nag

I know what I did. I had the photos in different files. A CD holds approximately 311 photos. Some were the files where I put un-doctored photos--originals. I keep them just for myself. The other files were where I put the ones I have lightened or darkened or whatever. The other day I had several computer problems with my DSL, keeping my printer up and running and connecting to e-mail. Allen helped me out. I now have a new Ethernet switch. During that process I became confused about what was what on my desktop. I know, I should name files so that I don’t. However, they were on my desktop in a certain order and then they weren’t. By the way, some of the files won’t save at all because “the originals are no longer available.” I thought I had this all figured out before I moved to CD. I didn’t. Oh, well. I call it live and learn.

Please don't nag.

Today Amy Became the New Ward Relief Society President

I am not doing too well at keeping up. Sorry about that. You can all feel free to post at any time. It really would be appreciated. Thanks to Siovhan for finding my back post still lingering in the dank, dark woods of the still-to-be posted information. Apparently I am not too good at this blog posting as of yet. I didn't know that items could be kept in the un-published area. Now I do.

At any rate, I hope you all got your Valentines from Gramps and I. Hopefully, there is still something you can buy for a dollar. I was hoping you could all go out together and buy a treat. But then, I have great faith in the mail (ha, ha) and think that you will actually all get your cards on the same day. Was that wishful thinking? By the way, does anybody anywhere bang Valentines anymore? That was fun in the old days.
