Kevin

Do you have the home email address for your dad and mom? Is it  garth-childs@yahoo.com? If not, what is it? Your dad said he thought  that was right but he hadn’t received the photos I sent all of you.

Thanks. It must be a VERY long log time. Are  you fine? I hope so. Love, Aunt Myrna

Kevin:There home e-mil address is garth_childs@yahoo.com  He  said the same thing to me.   I know there is a very long lag time  from msn to yahoo.

I am doing great!   I have been busy with work.  I am now working part time with the mail order pharmacy and part time with pharmacy purchasing for Kaiser Permanente.  We are in the middle of switching over to a new ordering system.  I have been working full time in purchasing because of the switch and February has been very busy.  The new system isn't working how it should and the old system crashing. I can not wait for April!!

In April I will be going to Hawaii.  It was a Christmas present.  A great present if you ask me!!  After the past month of work I can not wait to leave.

How have you been????

Myrna:
Ah, Hawaii! When you get there, think of me. You know, I was supposed to be born in Hawaii. My guardian angel got mixed up and dropped me off in Utah. There is a poor little girl in Hawaii who was supposed to be dropped off in Utah who is just suffering from the heat. (Just kidding. But if I find out that is what really happened, I will be ticked off.) Who gave you a Christmas present like that? I want to get on their list.

We have the usual life—too much to do and not enough time to do it in We are still working at the temple on Friday and Saturday. I baby sit three or five (depending on the week) grandkids on Wednesday and Thursday. Sometimes there are more, if school is out. Monday and Tuesday are newspaper days

Leonard is still helping Jim (Julie’s husband, Jim Jones) with the bees. It has been a hard year for them because of the accident at Las Vegas where they lost one-third of the business because a trucker helping haul them hit the bank of concrete and dumped the load. The insurance still hasn’t settled but they are rebuilding anyway.

Todd will be re-located in Ohio. Discover Card gave him a promotion. They are excited but I am sad.

Are you getting the pictures of your ancestors?

You won’t have time to read this.

Love, Aunt Myrna

Bookkeeper Grandpa Ray

 Dear Myrna,

I had had that picture you called Claude and ?? - but I had thought it was Ray. I put it as Ray in the Smith FamilyHistoryCD - but I'm glad you knew who it was. Did it say on it?

You sent a picture of a CCC Camp. How did that figure in the story?

Thanks for all your help.

That picture of the group with the flag must have been taken when they signed up because the clothes of Claude and Ray are identical.

Myrna wrote: Grandpa Ray was the bookkeeper and the storekeeper at the CCC camp. That happened years after the Mexican/American War. In fact, that was after he had owned his own butcher shop in Huntington. He became ill and decided that he would train as a bookkeeper. He stayed with Fred and Pearle for a time and went to school. When he finished, he went to work as the bookkeeper at the CCC camp. He could add, so I was told, a long list of figures by moving his finger down the line arriving at the total, in his mind, when he reached the bottom of the line. He would then move up the line in the same way, checking his accuracy of the first time. He was always the same. Love, Myrna

About the story, "Grandma's Forks"

From Kimiann Pitts:

Hi, Myrna!
This story (Grandma's Forks) is so wonderful....thanks so much!
Did it come from "Guideposts"?  ( magazine)
My Grandma used to read them and had a subscription just for me sent to my house as I was growing up.  ( My Mom's mom, Delpha)
Even after she died, I still got the magazine for quite some time.  It was like she was still there with me............*sigh*
Thanks again!
Love, Kim

From Myrna:

It did. Did you know that they have a monthly newsletter they will send you on-line for free? M

The New House in Ohio.

Todd and Amy will be making this their home. It looks like a great place to raise a family.

all this has taken years but just came to a head

From Donnette Smith:

In 1968 We visited a distant cousin, Beatrice Harrison, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. She was telling us about her great aunt, Susan Heritage. (Susan is Richard’s great great aunt.) Susan married a man named Taylor at Bicester and they had some children and moved to Sheffield to work in the steel mills.  Then the whole family except the husband came down with smallpox. Susan’s sister didn’t dare come in to help but would leave food on the windowsill. After the husband nursed everyone back to health, he came down with smallpox and died. Later Susan married again. Beatrice
remembered that Susan had a daughter named Gertrude, and she said, Funnily she could remember that Susan had a boy named Fred Dennison by the second husband.

Now - I’ve got it sorted out finally. But Beatrice did give us some good tips.

I spent a lot of time the last couple of days on Ancestry.com looking up relatives in the 1891 and 1901 census and on FreeBMD looking up births, marriages and deaths.  I was looking up Dennison. Then I found all the records as Denston or Denstone.  But Fred  is "son in law" to Wm. Denstone in the 1901 census. Meaning - step son. Now I found that Fred Dennison wasn’t Fred Denstone but Fred Taylor! I finally found his birth and his father ( John Taylor)’s death and his mother, Susan Heritage’s remarriage.  Becky just did the temple work for Fred Denston.

Anyway - all this has taken years but just came to a head this last couple of day.

New Ohio House Photos From Todd and Amy

Hi Todd & Amy,
Here are the pictures Cheri took yesterday for you. It may take more than one email. I will number them.
Thanks,

Rita

You Gotta See This Bridge!

The bridge (or should it be called tunnel) goes  under water to allow movement of ships.   In order for ships to pass, this  bridge is half under the water. You drive down in the water and then come out  on the other side. Truly a marvelous piece of engineering!  This bridge  is between Sweden and Denmark . Picture taken from the side of Sweden.
There is another bridge, also, that we traveled across from one part of Denmark to another. It is quite a structure itself. It goes high over the water so that ships can sail on the water. These bridges are not cheap to travel, however. The Danes pay a high toll rate to use the bridges. Myrna

Melanie wrote: It reminds me of the tunnels that connect mainland Boston, with the island that Logan airport is on. We go underneath the water as well, but not as far.

What year was this taken? (Smith)

From: "Donnette S. Smith" <powergrandma@juno.com>

Claude Smith is 2nd from left on front row and his brother Raymond is 4th
from left. They are Herbert w. Smith Sr.'s brothers.

I wonder if anyone can tell from the looks of the autos what year this
was. The men are evidentally meeting after a parade. They were Mexican
Volunteers 1916 and I thought this is after they served. But from the
ties and suits they have on they are wearing the same clothes as some I
have on the Smith FamilyHistoryCD as Claude #2 and Ray#3 so maybe they
had those pictures taken the same day as this group picture. Maybe this
was taken before they went.

Thanks for all these new pictures. My internet is so slow it took an hour to download. But worth it.

1. Yes that is Viola on the right. That picture is in the Smith CD I sent you. Thank you. I didn't stop and check the CD.

2. Ray is 4th on the front - - I think it looks like a reunion and isn't  that Claude 2nd from left? It is.

3. The picture - Claude Smith and? - didn't come through so I could see it. The rest are great. I'll try again.
4. It says: No. 6, Troop F. N.G.U. Aug. 6, 1916. - Can you make out Ray  in this? Is he 4th from right? I don't see Claude at all. You are right. I see Grandpa but I don't see Claude.
Donnette

thanks for the pictures‏---Donnette

Juno closed my account (powergrandma) for the day (for the first time ever) as there were so many messages in the last 24 hours. It will be open again tomorrow. Luckily I have a second account that is still ok. If you want to contact me or send any pictures today use this one.

You said:
In the first photo, Grandpa Ray is on the extreme left of the photo. My grandmother is standing behind him. In the next photo, Grandpa is standing by the wagon wheel eating an apple. I cannot see Grandma. I’m certain she is still there, I just can’t seem to see her. Myrna

The second photo didn't come through. Just the great one of cleaning day. I think that is when they cut me off.

Also that photo --Claude Smith and? -- still doesn't come through. I think there is something wrong with the scan. Could you scan it again and send it again?

I wish I had had these pictures when I was doing the Smith FamilyHistoryCD. I would have loved to have included the ones of Ray in 1935 and the cleaning and the reunion one. Thanks for sending them.
