In 1968 We visited a distant cousin, Beatrice Harrison, in Sheffield, Yorkshire, Eng. She was telling us about her great aunt, Susan Heritage. (Susan is Richard’s great great aunt.) Susan married a man named Taylor at Bicester and they had some children and moved to Sheffield to work in the steel mills.  Then the whole family except the husband came down with smallpox. Susan’s sister didn’t dare come in to help but would leave food on the windowsill. After the husband nursed everyone back to health, he came down with smallpox and died. Later Susan married again. Beatrice
remembered that Susan had a daughter named Gertrude, and she said, Funnily she could remember that Susan had a boy named Fred Dennison by the second husband.

Now - I’ve got it sorted out finally. But Beatrice did give us some good tips.

I spent a lot of time the last couple of days on Ancestry.com looking up relatives in the 1891 and 1901 census and on FreeBMD looking up births, marriages and deaths.  I was looking up Dennison. Then I found all the records as Denston or Denstone.  But Fred  is "son in law" to Wm. Denstone in the 1901 census. Meaning - step son. Now I found that Fred Dennison wasn’t Fred Denstone but Fred Taylor! I finally found his birth and his father ( John Taylor)’s death and his mother, Susan Heritage’s remarriage.  Becky just did the temple work for Fred Denston.    

Anyway - all this has taken years but just came to a head this last couple of day.

You Gotta See This Bridge!

The bridge (or should it be called tunnel) goes  under water to allow movement of ships.   In order for ships to pass, this  bridge is half under the water. You drive down in the water and then come out  on the other side. Truly a marvelous piece of engineering!  This bridge  is between Sweden and Denmark . Picture taken from the side of Sweden.

There is another bridge, also, that we traveled across from one part of Denmark to another. It is quite a structure itself. It goes high over the water so that ships can sail on the water. These bridges are not cheap to travel, however. The Danes pay a high toll rate to use the bridges. Myrna

Claude Smith is 2nd from left on front row and his brother Raymond is 4th
from left. They are Herbert w. Smith Sr.'s brothers.

I wonder if anyone can tell from the looks of the autos what year this
was. The men are evidentally meeting after a parade. They were Mexican
Volunteers 1916 and I thought this is after they served. But from the
ties and suits they have on they are wearing the same clothes as some I
have on the Smith FamilyHistoryCD as Claude #2 and Ray#3 so maybe they
had those pictures taken the same day as this group picture. Maybe this
was taken before they went.

1. Yes that is Viola on the right. That picture is in the Smith CD I sent you. Thank you. I didn't stop and check the CD.

The second photo didn't come through. Just the great one of cleaning day. I think that is when they cut me off.


Also that photo --Claude Smith and? -- still doesn't come through. I think there is something wrong with the scan. Could you scan it again and send it again?

I wish I had had these pictures when I was doing the Smith FamilyHistoryCD. I would have loved to have included the ones of Ray in 1935 and the cleaning and the reunion one. Thanks for sending them.

 It is a good thing I wasn't quite ready with Richard's written account of his experiences in WWII. So I hadn't sent them in. I did have Ray and Claude's pictures done on CD but I'll redo them and add these.
