Re: Pictures

Thanks for all these new pictures. My internet is so slow it took an hour to download. But worth it.

1. Yes that is Viola on the right. That picture is in the Smith CD I sent you. Thank you. I didn't stop and check the CD.

2. Ray is 4th on the front - - I think it looks like a reunion and isn't  that Claude 2nd from left? It is.

3. The picture - Claude Smith and? - didn't come through so I could see it. The rest are great. I'll try again.
4. It says: No. 6, Troop F. N.G.U. Aug. 6, 1916. - Can you make out Ray  in this? Is he 4th from right? I don't see Claude at all. You are right. I see Grandpa but I don't see Claude.

thanks for the pictures‏---Donnette

From: Donnette S Smith <donnette6@juno.com>

Juno closed my account (powergrandma) for the day (for the first time ever) as there were so many messages in the last 24 hours. It will be open again tomorrow. Luckily I have a second account that is still ok. If you want to contact me or send any pictures today use this one.

You said:
In the first photo, Grandpa Ray is on the extreme left of the photo. My grandmother is standing behind him. In the next photo, Grandpa is standing by the wagon wheel eating an apple. I cannot see Grandma. I’m certain she is still there, I just can’t seem to see her. Myrna

The second photo didn't come through. Just the great one of cleaning day. I think that is when they cut me off.

Also that photo --Claude Smith and? -- still doesn't come through. I think there is something wrong with the scan. Could you scan it again and send it again?

I wish I had had these pictures when I was doing the Smith FamilyHistoryCD. I would have loved to have included the ones of Ray in 1935 and the cleaning and the reunion one. Thanks for sending them.

Photo ID Question

Donette wrote: In the picture - Smiths in cavalry - the men in two rows in front of a tent. Is Ray 4th from right in front? Donnette

Myrna wrote: Yes, that is the one I think he is also. It doesn't really say, but I think that is the one that Grandma Smith said was him. Love, Myrna

Wow! You really did have some pictures of the Mexican Border Volunteers. Thanks a million.

It is a good thing I wasn't quite ready with Richard's written account of his experiences in WWII. So I hadn't sent them in. I did have Ray and Claude's pictures done on CD but I'll redo them and add these.

D: 1. Do you have any idea which is Ray on Fort Front? Is he in back on the right?
M: Yes, I think that is him.

D: 2. On Cavalry Again is Ray there? I wonder if Claude could be at left. Can you read the date on the postmark? I think that is Claude but I wasn't certain.
M: The only part of the date I can make out is the year, 1916.

3. And Smith Mexican Conflict. Could Ray be seated on left? Yes

D: 4. On Fort Back it says: "Fort Kumehameha, H.T. 3rd Co." Were they in Hawaii Territory?
M: No, I think it was an Indian name.

D: 5. On the big one you sent in pieces it seems to say, " "No 7, Utah Cavalry, Nogales, Aug. 6, 1916". Is that what you make out?
M: Yes.

Thanks, Donnette

Somebody Said

A dear friend sent this to me. I guess I am at the stage of life where it tugged my heartstrings. So I am sending it on to you I love being a mother and being a grandmother is even better. Thank goodness it is an eternal job. (I have time to get it right?) Myrna

Somebody said it takes about six weeks to get back to normal after you've had a baby ... somebody doesn't know that once you're a mother,"normal" is history.

Somebody said you learn how to be a mother by instinct ... somebody never took a three-year-old shopping.

Somebody said being a mother is boring .. somebody never rode in a car driven by a teenager with a driver's permit.

Somebody said if you're a "good" mother, your child will "turn out good" somebody thinks a child comes with directions and a guarantee.

Somebody said "good" mothers never raise their voices ... somebody never came out the back door just in time to see her child hit a golf ball through the neighbor's kitchen window.

Somebody said you don't need an education to be a mother.... somebody never helped a fourth grader with his math.

Somebody said you can't love the fifth child as much as you love the first .. somebody doesn't have five children.

Somebody said a mother can find all the answers to her child-rearing questions in the books.. somebody never had a child stuff beans up his nose or in his ears.

Somebody said the hardest part of being a mother is labor and delivery somebody never watched her "baby" get on the bus for the first day of kindergarten ... or on a plane headed for military "boot camp."

Somebody said a mother can do her job with her eyes closed and one hand tied behind her back ... somebody never organized seven giggling Brownies to sell cookies.

Somebody said a mother can stop worrying after her child gets married...somebody doesn't know that marriage adds a new son or daughter-in-law to a mother's heartstrings (and those precious grandchildren).

Somebody said a mother's job is done when her last child leaves home....somebody never had grandchildren.

Somebody said your mother knows you love her, so you don't need to tell her... somebody isn't a mother.

The Calvary with Claude and Raymond Smith

Myrna said: This is a huge photo. I had to scan it a bit at a time. My cousin, Garth, has the original which the family has kept rolled up. I made this photocopy. Then I had also had a negative professionally made from the original. I can’t seem to put my hands on it. So this is scanned in pieces and then put back together.

Both Raymond James Smith and his brother, Claude Smith are in the photo.

Donnette wrote: I got one picture of a group of men - couldn't figure who any were. Do you have any list of them? And when and where it was taken?

Thanks for it anyway.

Myrna said: These are all photos of Raymond and Claude in Mexico during their service
there. All the photos I am sending you are in my grandmother's photos. That is all it says about them.
I thought that you may recognize which man was which. I know them only from photos. I didn't know how many photos of each of them you had seen. I need to get out a magnifying glass, I guess. I'm not certain I can tell even then. There is no writing on the back of the photo.

The Smith boys were good-looking and clean-shaven. I need to compare the faces in zoom mode with their photos and see if I can find them. As we looked at the photos, my children and I, one seemed to think my grandfather is third from the left and is seated. On better inspection, I do not think that it is.

Grammy--

I won't be able to make it to Sunday dinner this week. Grrr. I have to help with the ward Potluck dinner--as the committee for that is under my supervision. I want to come soon though, so I will definitely try to make it down there. I love you and hope you understand.

Love,
Siovhany

All kidding aside, I am glad you are active in church and have a testimony. It is important. We do love you and will be glad for any time you can come.

Love you, Grammy
